About

The Lifenest™ mattress was developed by Paediatric ENT Dr. Jose Bensoussan after witnessing a friends agony over losing their daughter to SIDS. Dr. Bensoussan set about to develop a breathable mattress that allowed for a safer nights sleep.

Lifenest™ Hammock style mattress ensures a safer night's as it:

  • Is breathable
  • Keeps babies on their back (reducing pressure on cranium)
  • Prevents overheating and
  • Allows for a gentle airflow around the baby

Why the hammock design?

What started as a design for a breathable netted mattress that placed the baby in a suspended state (reminiscent of the comfort in the womb) quickly became a low pressure mattress also as testing revealed the hammock to perfectly cradle the infants head while relieving pressure all over.

Lifenest™ in Hospitals

They have been carefully designed to cradle the baby’s head, increasing the contact surface to distribute the pressure evenly. This helps in the prevention of positional plagiocephaly (especailly in premature babies), pressure ulcers, re-breathing, sweating, overheating, and hospital-acquired infections. It also improves comfort, sleep quality and phototherapy treatments among newborns.

"LifeNest is helping us reduce the babies stay in the NICU and sending them home to their families where they belong."

Charles Simmons, MD
Chair of the Department of Paediatrics and Director of the Division of Neonatology at Cedars Sinai

"We are interested in theses mattresses because with the lower surface tension, we expect less risk of head flattening and less pressure ulcers."
Ellen Mack, RNC MN
Neonatal clinical nurse specialist at Cedars Sinai
